About SkinnerStrong

The SkinnerStrong Foundation is an Internal Revenue Service qualified 501c3, Florida not for profit corporation. The Foundation was established to continue the legacy of Joe Skinner, a gifted and humble athlete with a kind heart. Joe was diagnosed with hypodiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemia in December 2015 and passed away less than five months later, at age 17.

Upon learning of Joe’s diagnosis, his Bishop Moore High School baseball teammates and friends, led by Mike Giordano, started the SkinnerStrong movement. It began with selling #SKINNERSTRONG wristbands and grew from there.  Joe asked that the funds raised be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and leukemia research organizations; he wanted young kids like the ones he saw in the hospital to have something to look forward to and he wanted to give hope of a cure for those afflicted.  The Foundation was created in that spirit.

The SkinnerStrong Foundation’s mission is to support research in the area of childhood leukemia; the treatment and care of children with leukemia; and Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando, Fla., by promoting the Foundation, accepting donations and hosting fundraisers.
